THE WORLD COSPLAY SUMMIT

THE WORLD COSPLAY SUMMIT

© 2009 TVA

With the concept that cosplayers play a leading role in introducing Japanese manga and animation through the visual renderings of Japan and Japanese manga characters to people around the world.

Maid Café (Cosplay Restaurant)

Cosplay restaurants are theme restaurants and pubs that originated in Akihabara, Tokyo, Japan around the year 2000. They include maid cafés, where the service staff dress as elegant maids. Such restaurants and cafés have quickly become a staple of Japanese otaku culture. Compared with service at normal cafés, the service at cosplay cafés involves the creation of a rather different atmosphere. The staff treat the customers as masters in a private home rather than merely as café customers.

Gachapon- Kaikan (Shop)

Gashapon machines are similar to the coin-operated toy vending machines seen outside of grocery stores and other retailers in other countries. While coin-operated vending toys are usually cheap, low-quality products, sold for a quarter or 50 cents, Japanese Gashapon can cost anywhere from 100 - 500 yen (Equal to $1–$5 US) and are normally a much higher quality product.
