After the death of the 3rd shogun Yoshimitsu (1358-1408), this facility became the Zen Buddhist temple known as Rokuonji Temple - or, more commonly, Kinkakuji Temple - rebuilt in 1955 with the 1st floor designed in Shinden-zukuri style, the 2nd floor in Buke-zukuri style and the 3rd floor in Zenshu Butsudo-zukuri style.
