Today, proceed to Shiga, home to Lake Biwa, the largest
lake in Japan that offers a rich natural environment of water
and greenery. Its magnificent and varied landscapes are
presented as the ‘Eight Views of Lake Biwa’ and the ‘Eight
Views of Omi’ for their scenic beauty. The area, which has
flourished as a leading cultural and economic center since
ancient times, has a deep historical culture, including historic
temples, shrines, the footprints of heroes from the Warring
States period and beyond, which are still carefully preserved
and handed down to the present day. Visit Hikone Castle,
one of only five castles listed as a National Treasure. Visit a
beautifully preserved merchant town, Omihachiman and
learn the history of the area.
