Easily reachable from Tokyo, Yamanashi Prefecture is home to Mt. Fuji, Japan’s most sacred mountain, the picturesque Fuji Five Lakes, nature-rich areas, unique hot springs, and some of Japan’s best wineries.

Day 1: Tokyo - Kofu - Isawa Onsen


Depart Tokyo to Yamanashi by an express train. Enjoy sightseeing by car, visiting:

• SANTORY WHISKY Hakushu Distillery

Sample whisky at a distillery that draws on natural spring water in Japan’s Southern Alps.

• Takeda Shrine

The shrine was built on the former grounds of the residence of local hero Takeda Shingen, one of the strongest feudal warlords in Japanese history. The Takeda clan was based in Kofu for many generations and controlled today’s Yamanashi Prefecture. Takeda Shrine is specially a popular spot to enjoy the cherry blossoms in the spring, with about 50 cherry trees planted on the site.

• Sadoya Winery

This is Kofu’s most historic winery, at the heart of a southern France-inspired village. With a history stretching back one hundred years, Sadoya is Kofu’s oldest winery, located in a beautiful village themed after the French wine-making region of Provence.

• Isawa Onsen

Enjoy a soak in a hot spring at Isawa Onsen, a scenic resort town encircled by mountains and famed for its spectacular cherry blossoms in spring.

Day 2: Isawa Onsen - Minobu


Proceed to the sacred peak in Yamanashi, Mt. Minobu, where the head temple of the Nichiren school of Buddhism, Kuon-ji Temple is situated. Surrounded by nature, enjoy time here to relax and reset your mind. The Minobusan Ropeway features a succession of breathtaking views that one might think only mountaineers get to marvel at. There are about 20 shukubo (Temple lodging) in the area around Minobu-san Kuon-ji Temple, where you can have a unique and spiritual experience.

Day 3: Minobu - Kawaguchiko


Enjoy sightseeing by car, visiting:

• Arakurayama Sengen Park and the Churei-to Pagoda

This is a park with a panoramic view of Fujiyoshida City and Mount Fuji. It’s famous for its photographs of the Five-storied Pagoda, cherry blossoms, and Mount Fuji.

• Kitaguchi Hongu Fuji Sengen Jinja

A Shinto shrine dedicated to the kami of Mt. Fuji, the shrine is the historical starting point for pilgrims climbing the mountain. 

• Kubota Itchiku Museum

A unique museum that displays kimono created by Kubota Itchiku, who spent his lifetime reviving the lost art of Tsujigahana silk dyeing.

• Lake Kawaguchiko / Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway

(weather permitting), or take a cruise on Lake Kawaguchi and enjoy the beautiful scenery. You will then take a scenic drive to the city of Kofu (approx. 1h), the capital of Yamanashi Prefecture, visiting en route:

Overnight: Kaze no Terrace Kukuna or similar

 

Day 4: Kawaguchiko - Tokyo or Next Destination


Depart to Tokyo (approx. 2 hours) or your next destination.
