day 1

Fukuoka and Arita

Half-day sightseeing of Fukuoka, visiting Dazaifu Tenmangu Shrine (dedicated to Michizane Sugawara, the God of learning), Komyozenji (Zen) Temple and Kyushu National Museum.
Lunch at a local tofu (bean curd) restaurant.
Go to Arita, noted for porcelain, by coach, visiting famous kilns and China on the Park.

Stay at a ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) in Ureshino Hot Spring Resort.

day 2

Nagasaki

Go to Nagasaki by private car
Nagasaki full-day tour
Visit Oura Cathedral and Glover Garden.
Lunch at Chinatown.
Peace Memorial Park, Atomic Bomb Museum and Dejima (Dutch trading post during the Edo period and Japan's only opening to the outside world at that time)

Stay at a comfortable hotel overlooking a magnificent night view.

day 3

Unzen and Kumamoto

Proceed to Unzen, visiting Unzen Jigoku Hell (pools of hot springs steaming out from underground giving a hell-like image)
Observe Mud-flooded houses caused by the 1991 eruption of Mt. Fugen.
Transfer to Shimabara port, leaving for Kumamoto port by ferry (30min)
Arrive at Kumamoto, sightseeing of Kumamoto Castle (one of the three most famous castles in Japan) and stroll through Suizenji Park (a beautiful Japanese garden)

Stay at a comfortable hotel near Kumamoto Castle.

day 4

Mt.Aso and Kagoshima

Transfer to Mt.Aso ( the largest caldera in the world) riding a ropeway to the crater.
Soba buckwheat noodles for lunch (experiencing making your own soba)
Go to Kagoshima from Kumamoto by JR shinkansen (bullet train), a 50-min ride, visiting a shochu (distilled liquor) brewery.
Stay at a comfortable hotel enjoying black pork and beef as steak or in shabu-shabu, seeing Mt. Sakurajima (an active volcano)

day 5

Kagoshima and Fukuoka

Kagoshima half-day tour, visiting Mt. Sakurajima, Senganen (a former feudal lord's villa and later residence) and Shoko Shuseikan museum (formerly Japan's first iron machinery plant)
Transfer to Fukuoka by JR shinkansen. Enjoy a box lunch during the 80-min ride on the JR shinkansen.
Arrive at Fukuoka, visiting Fukuoka tower ( the highest coastal tower in Japan)
Shopping at Tenijn/Hakata.
Enjoy dinner at a yatai. Fukuoka City yatais are local street stalls that are very popular not only locally and nationwide, but also among tourists.
